Sow a thought and reap a habit,
Sow a habit and reap a character,

At Least .... Toolan

'At least' .... 2 words .... damaging, depending on how and when it is used.
Literally I take it to mean 'mandatory minimum requirement'.

What if I don't owe you a duty of care, I am not answerable to you (for now), then I don't have to 'at least' inform/update/ explain to you.

On the other hand, I will 'at least' need to inform/update/ explain only when it is necessary.

Toolan !

In the journey of life, if we want to travel without fear, we must have the ticket of a good conscience.

Cheers

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver." ~ Jack Handy

WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may leave you wondering what the hell happened to your bra and panties.

Be Innovative, Be Creative

A blind boy sat by the street corner with a hat by his feet and a sign which read “I am blind, please help”.
There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man walked pass, took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat.
He then took the sign, turned it around and wrote come words.
He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up.
A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy.

That afternoon the man came to see how things were.

The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, ‘Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?’

The man said, ‘I wrote the truth, I said what you said but in a different way.’

What he had written was ‘Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
Both signs told people the boy is blind.
But the first sign simply said the boy was blind.
The second sign told people they were lucky that they were not blind.

Be creative, be innovative, think differently and positively.

Meditation

There's no one else who can do it for us.
We each have to do it for ourselves.
Be aware, moment to moment,
paying attention to what's happening in a total way.
There's nothing mystical about it,
it's so simple, direct and straighforward ;
but it takes doing.

That's what meditation is all about.

I Dreamed A Dream

I and perhaps most the audiences and judges have written her off from the moment she came on stage.
But it was her gusty 'dare to fail' attitude and an opportunity.
From the point she hits the first note, the dream she dreamed ceased to be a dream.

90/10

10% of life is made up of what happens to us.
(And we really have NO control)

90% of life is decided by our reaction (to the above) & how we react is our decision.

Dhammapada

Those born into this world must acquire much merit.

As from the mass of flowers many a garland may be made,
so by one born mortal should many good deeds be done.

The Exalted One
Dhammapada V.53

Explanation :
The deft maker of garlands takes a variety of flowers.
Out of these he creates garlands of different strands and variegated arrangements.
In the same way, those who are born into this world should, out of their lives, create good, wholesome, meritorious actions of a vast variety.

Doctor Doctor

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Size Does Not Matter

It's not the biggest or strongest who'll survive.
But the ONE most adaptable to CHANGE.

CHANGE IS THE LAW OF NATURE.
The only constant is CHANGE.
Nothing stays the same.
We either change with the times and situations or be left out.

Qing Ming

Qing Ming festival, a day for remembrance and an opportunity to pay homage to one's parents and ancestors. It is also to show filial piety, a value one should uphold throughout and it should be passed on to the next generation.

Transference of merits.

According to Buddhism, when a person dies he/she could be reborn in any one of the 31 planes of existence. Some of these are the Deva (happy) realms, where beings that have developed good Karma are reborn. On the other hand, those who have accumulated evil Karma are reborn in woeful states ie. hells or animals.

There is an intermediate (unhappy) state where people who have not bothered to accumulate good Karma and yet at the same time have not done any serious evil deeds are born after their deaths.

Thus, the living relatives or friends of such beings can perform good deeds ie. give alms, donations, charities, etc and mentally transmit the merits accrued to them.

When the unhappy beings become aware that they have been remembered, they experience happiness and are hence propelled into better states of existence.

Idam me natinam hotu,
sukhita hontu natayu.

May the merits accrued be transferred
to our departed loved ones
and may they be well and happy.

April Fool

A fire alarm rang at a large company when almost all employees were in office. As usual the employees were evacuated within 3 minutes & all gathered outside at the designated area waiting for further announcement.

The Security Officer in charge made the following announcement:

"Dear employees, with sincere regret I have been asked to announce that for many of you it will be your last evacuation drill. Due to the recession the company is laying off almost 50% of its employees. So when this announcement finishes, I ask all of you to move back into the building and if your swipe card does not work then it means you have been laid off in which case you will not be allowed inside and all your belongings will be couriered to you by tomorrow.

The Company has used this innovative approach as we didn't want to fill up the email box with lay-off mails and good bye mails in thousands & also to avoid any fight inside the office and the consequent security issue for all staff.

Hope you have had a rewarding career with us and all the best ahead. Please move back in & try your luck".
